This webpage presents the information collected to develop recommendations for the intervention in Bazurto, the central food market in Cartagena, Colombia. In our study, we recognize the lessons and challenges associated with other food market interventions in cities of the global South, and academic studies about food distribution and their global trends. Here we wish to present the work done by a transnational group of students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with prior relevant experiences in cities of the global South and the Universidad Tecnologica de Bolivar (UTB), which contributed their local knowledge of the city and history in relationship to the actors, politics and food distribution.

With this in mind we would like to highlight the leadership and permanent mentorship of an interdisciplinary group of professors from both universities. This group was put together for the exclusive purpose of analyzing the challenge of the Bazurto Market and to contribute with their specialized knowledge for the recommendations developed for the City Majorís Office in the areas of urban planning, urban mobility, food distribution in low-income neighborhoods, logistics and collective innovation.
